Kind of middling. Featured the first song of the second season, cute (d'awww Fluttershy loves her critters), but it lacked the mischievous, subtle adult humor of the previous episodes and was utterly, utterly predictable. Kind of a throwback to the previous My Little Pony incarnations.

Yeah, I found it predictable from about five minutes in. I'm almost legendary in my inability to figure stuff out, so when " I " find something as predictable as this then it's probably too predictable.

Oh look, that tortoise has appeared during the song again. Now there's the tortoise again, and there it is again and again and again. I wonder which one is gonna end up being Rainbow Dash's pet?

Basically, it's similar to Applebuck Season in which the entertainment value lies in the various memes and one time jokes, not the plot. My favorite moments are as follows:

I just have to say- and I know the lyrics are probably legacy from the old toons- but the line in the theme song, "And magic makes it all complete," always makes me feel like it's a cereal ad, not a cartoon intro. (Not that the two were necessarily separable, as Jay Ward could demonstrate...)

They should just run one of the youtube PMVs as an intro to each episode. Honestly, a new one is made every week, many of them are professional quality, and 20% cooler than the official opening song.

I realize that there probably isn't much point to finding problems with the plot to what is essentially a children's show with parental bonuses, but I found "The Mysterious Mare Do Well" a little too stilted to be really acceptable.

I mean, Ponyville is a pretty peaceful, quiet and happy place with only "occasional" big disasters now and then like the parasprite plague and the dragon smoke covering. Now suddenly we have child falling down well, a baby stroller and a bus of tourists careening down a cliff face, a balcony full of oldies breaking off, a construction site collapsing, a hot air balloon falling from the sky AND a sudden impromptu dam breaking all in the space of a week or two? I was starting to think somepony might have been CAUSING these disasters to happen, but I guess that would have been too dark for this show.

Personally, I didn't figure out the plot twist until the dam scene. Thanks to the Season Two writers making it so that magical auras have different colors depending on which unicorn is using it I was able to recognize who it was because of the magenta magic. Then of course later on in Sugar Cube Corner Twilight just couldn't resist mentioning her admiration that, "Using magic to repair the dam must have taken a lot of study!" She was just officially taking the piss by that point.

Sweet and Elite - Episode 9, Season 2

Definitely an improvement over the previous episode. The song was kind of meh (felt too much like a Miley Cyrus/Barbie Girl/Bratz jingle) but as soon as the rest of the mane cast arrived, it was awesome. The Party Cannon is now canon. Also, derpy returns, and she's still good in the sack(s).

Alas, Dish Network has ended its free sample offering of the Hub; if I want to continue watching, I'll have to upgrade to their top-tier basic-channel service, the Top 250. (I'm currently on the top 200.)

Upgrading costs $10/mth. The only two shows I watch on Hub are Transformers Prime (which I find better than most incarnations of the franchise) and MLP:FiM. I can definitely go through life without Transformers Prime.

Of the forty or so channels that extra $10 would buy, the only ones I would have any interest in whatever are Encore (six movie channels-meh), Boomerang (old toons-meh), H2 (second History Channel, which I'd only be interested in if they had actual, y'know, HISTORY shows, which HC doesn't anymore), Military Channel (see H2- MC is on sample now, and most of it is to me boring military hardware documentaries), Science Channel (mostly stuff that aired on Discovery five years ago), The3 (more movies, meh), and Movie Channel (meh).

And the Hub, which has deranged ponies on it now and then.

The decision would be easier if Hasbro were bringing out a Season 1 box set or something, but they aren't- the DVD offerings are basically episodes-at-random at excessive price for the current market.

So now I get to decide if, because of ONE show, I want to add $10/mth plus tax to a bill which is already one of my larger monthly expenses, and which by all rights I should be seeking to LOWER, not raise...

You didn't mention the hoof fetish bit in the opening minute. What kind of name is Jet Set for a non-pegasus? Especially when the ponies use dirigibles? Is there some kind of parliament in Canterlot?

Equestria is a monarchy - one where the rulers ARE semi-divine. There may be some kind of administrative/governing body below Celestia/Luna that handles day-to-day affairs consisting of nobles and appointed officials, but they've never shown anything like that beyond the Ma(yor)re of Ponyville.

Of course, there are about a hundred fanfics where the Equestria government has a very dark side to it...
