As to why the body was disposed of... it's common (mistaken) knowledge that kitsune are foxes who take human shape, rather than vice versa. Tamamo no moe's body was unmistakably a human body, and thus nothing but trouble, even back then. Even the Imperial court might have objected... or at least failed to pay the balance of the hunters' fee.

And all hunters tend to, if time and happenstance permit, cremate a zoanthrope corpse. Remember, up to the early victorian age, fresh, or preserved corpses, were used in medicines. Mummia & other such derivative folk remedies. Even without the benefit of modern disease theory, they'd have known such a corpse held a peculiar taint, and must be dealt with specially. Even if their local culture proscribed against burning a body, or even touching a corpse at all.

That's because most people think women dressed up in revealing silk outfits are sexy. The same can't be said for muscular, hulking, hairy women*. Plus, it's a lot cheaper to buy an outfit (or fake fangs) than create a CG werewolf or realistic werewolf costume.
