This is my submission for the DeviantArt "Manga/Anime Official Repeating Contest", January edition.



The subject of this month's contest is "Flashlight", so I have incorporated flashlights into the scene. Vivian is repairing a very large flash-light, using a flashlight to assist her, while a flashlight hangs from her belt and a flashlight is advertised on the blimp nearby.

Well, here's Ichigo and he's out for a stroll with 'Hime... wait... what? Okay, what's going on here? And why is Rukia hiding there? I'm pretty sure it isn't what you think it is, Rukia!

...for some reason it always involves a shootout and a frantic opening of some ancient civilization's supertech vault. That last second door opening and slipping in thing is great for storylines. Not quite so fun being in it and all, but then again some people like that excitement.

A powerful and dangerous Servant has appeared! Tohsaka Rin now has some powerful and dangerous tsun-tsun competition, too. I suspect the Grail War will be different this time.

Luffy could tell that the Going Merry needed a heavy weapons expert- someone who was calm under fire, and could handle whatever powerful new weapons that they used. He needed someone with good aim and a motivated personality...

And so, Kiyone Makibi, formerly of the Tenchi Muyo anime series joined his little crew. Sanji was particularly happy about this development. Kiyone was, too- no more Mihoshi to babysit!



While Nami may get frustrated by the other crewmembers lunancy, Kiyone won't even flinch at it. She's just too relieved at the change of scenery. Woe betide the foe who threatens her new friends!

So, I'm browsing through DeviantArt the other day, and I decided to search for art from Sonic Soldier Borgman. To my surprise, there isn't any- nothing from the series itself. After that, I searched for Anice Fam/Farm, and couldn't find any of her.

I decided to fix this. Here's a pic of Anice Fam/Farm, the female member of the Borgman trio, in a bikini. When she's not fighting evil, she's a school teacher.

I really liked that official art scene with her in the starlight- in fact, I really like starry sky scenes where-ever I see them, which is why I chose to draw her this way.

If you feel the skin-tone is unrealistic, then here: Tifa turns that color when night falls- it's her secret special power (beyond her normal obvious powers). Captain Kirk approves of this power, by the way.

Miku wanted her Gelgoog to reflect her personality, so she had it repainted to suit her. Soon the foes of the AEUG learned to tremble when she came upon the scene singing various pop tunes in her green-edged mecha. The Beam Leek was a feared weapon in close, the twintail cannon at a distance.

I've been making good progress lately on designs for my planned comic. This is Foruth Station, the space station operated orbiting a moon near the Gas Giant Foruth, in the Colony 12 system. It is operated by the Colonial Republic. There are two other nations that operate stations around Foruth.



The design is a modified O'Neill Cylinder- what is called "Island 3":



It is 10 km long, and is capable of housing 10,000 (edit: a few hundred thousand) citizens comfortably. The primary cylinder has the housing and light industry, the secondary cylinder has the agriculture and gas processing systems, along with manufacturing capabilities.

Because it is far from the system's sun, it does not use mirrors for light- instead it has internally generated lights. This also allows a sturdier outside structure for protection. The tall rod-like structures are radiators to allow for cooling.

I was able to show a couple of my new designs in this picture. Leaving the docking bay is a shuttle, and nearer to us is a space tug (the thing with the orange spheres and the little arms).

This station, and the space surrounding, is where most of the story will take place, and it is also where Mindy and her friends live- though she just arrived there.

Artist's Comments
The Colonial Republic has two main Space Combat Mecha in use at the present time- this is the lighter of the two, the SCM-05. It is designed for use on smaller warships where total mass issues are more critical, so it must have a lighter mass. It stands 20 feet tall.

The companion to it is the heavier SCM-07, which is used on space stations and heavier warships, where the mass issues are less critical.

The SCM-05 is armed with an autocannon, a plasma saber and a shield. It can be equipped with a guided missile launcher as well. For defense, it has ECM launching equipment and a pair of laser brooms in the head.

Concept:

I realized that I wanted a variety of mecha designs that are seen frequently, so I decided that the Colonial Republic (the nation that Mindy and her friends belongs to) should have a couple mecha designs for visual interest. Thinking about needs in space, I figured that two separate designs that had different purposes but were roughly the same in size and configuration would suffice.

The design is still simple, but that's because I will have to draw it a lot, and it is at my current skill level to draw this design at that rate. As I get better I can add more detail.

The next design, the SCM-07 will be heavier and more powerful. I have it mostly ready to go, but it still needs a few tweaks.

For sizes, they are much smaller than a Mobile Suit from Gundam- I think they're about a third the height. They're closer to the size of a Labor from "Patlabor", and have a similar secondary use in construction and service in space. Think of them as really big space suits, with much better protection against the elements and more comfort than the smaller variety.

The SCM-07 is the heavier mecha in general use by the Colonial Republic Army and Militia. It is the companion to the lighter SCM-05 (image here: [link]), and is mainly used on larger ships or space stations where the increased mass has less overall affect on the performance of either. Lighter ships would be more adversely affected by the greater mass, which is why the SCM-05 is used on them.



The heavier mass is offset by more propellant and more powerful engines. That extra mass allows the SCM-07 to carry heavier weapons, a higher-performance power source, and more armor than a lighter mecha.

Originally, the SCM-07 was designed for Militia usage, but the military found it useful, and now uses it in preference to the SCM-06 that was originally intended for that role. It is an easy to handle and operate mecha, designed for the needs of the Militia. As such, it is easily repairable and very durable. It is easy for a pilot to get the most out of it, unlike the harder to handle SCM-06 or even the SCM-05 light mecha.

It is armed with a machine cannon, an energy saber (I'll show the full concept later), a series of guided missiles (that tube thing below the gun) and has a shield for defense (to be shown later). Oh, it also has ECM/ECCM launchers built into the upper torso.

Of the -05 and -07, this is Mindy's favorite, because she thinks it looks cooler (and also because she does better using it).
