Any other werewolf comics?

Postby Deme » Mon Aug 28, 2006 5:34 pm

I was wondering if there was any other webcomics about webcomics?

About webcomics, werewolves, or werecomics?

There are several werewolf webcomics, but most of them lean very heavily towards angsty-gothy-crap. Quite a few also include the Sekrit War wit Wampires- er, Vampires.

The Wotch has a werewolf in the supporting cast, but it's not a werewolf comic. Alpha Luna is done by LoboLeo, who has done some sexy female werewolf TF shorts in the past. Right now those are the only two werewolf-connected webcomics I'm following.

After PitW, Alpha Luna is a close second... but I fear Kris is right about the angst stuff.

Let's see there's Black Tapesteries/Kaerwyn - which are two comics by the same person (not sure what happened to the Crimson one... ah, Crimson Fury is stalled). They're both about the same character who is a Werefox and none too happy about it, there is some humour but they're both generally relentless in the woe of the main character.

Uh... Shifters, is the only one I bother with. It started out as a pretty humourous and light hearted affair... but has since descended into apocalyptic foreboding and angst and updates rather infrequently.

Oh, Fred Perry's GD Tangent has some female were characters.

Oh and Clan of the Cats has a main character who becomes a panther and a sister that is a wereleopard or something...

That's all I can think of.

Don't bother about shifters, I've read that the artist had a 'difference' of opinion with one of the other leading artsts and the comic was shutdown. I would consider them unreliable. They always seemed to blame life, but in reality I've seen every other webcomic to date atleast put something forth. Even if it is fan art or something.

There's also Lord Havoc's Lunar Diaries. It features a female werewolf as the protagonist. Hasn't been updated in a while, though.

Originality

Postby kupokupkupo » Wed Aug 30, 2006 9:14 pm

I've found PitW to be one of the few original were comics; all others are overfilling with angst. Every single one. "Oh noes I am a poor misunderstood creature of the night who must combat evil within and without me! Waaah!" While angst is good in small doses, PitW is the only comic centered on werewolves (that I know of) that treats the matter more lightheartedly, and actually touching on the *gasp* benefits of lycanthropy. Not that it's all fun and games, but it cannot be that horrible.
Chaos is most fun in audiovisual form.

Call it the Anne Rice factor- the gothic movement added alot of melodrama and angst to horror fiction. Don't even need to put it to webcomics, you also see it in dozens of novels and poems...

[shameless self-promotion]There's also my own non-angsty werewolf fiction - The Woods. You can find it at (Yahoo! group), Doc's Lab, or CYOC. Please note that all three webpages feature adult content. Alternatively, I could post it on the Creativity R We board here at WLP.[/shameless self-promotion]

The Woods

Postby K-MacK » Wed Sep 27, 2006 2:00 pm

I've read Happygun's "The Woods" and recommend it very highly! An excellent novella, it takes a new look at the Werewolf story and generates some very unique ideas. Read it, People! :D
