Past all the character stuff, it would seem that Sarah kept control of herself a lot longer with this shift. She was whining all the way to the Wuff Howl; then that took over.
Still, the monolog does show how she see herself. Lotsa luck, Sarah; on ever getting ANY control with an attitude like that.
Curious here: Kris, can Sarah talk as the Wuff, or is she limited to either howling or slavering over Peter in her huge furriness self?

Come to think of it, Ashley did get squelched this time but good. And while the other characters are interesting on their own; anything but a cameo introduction like this would clutter the story horribly.

The two examples in the quote from GURPS Discworld happen to be bad examples. In Carrot's case, we have a person who has an extremely limited capacity for not taking things literally attempting to enforce old laws on the most lawless (while three indisputably flawed "back-up" bravely wait outside for him to be thrown out unconscious or worse). In the case of the Silver Horder, the flaw is that the old men, who are astoundingly good at being barbarian heroes, are absolutely incapable of being anything else- and it is Mr. Saveloy's efforts to make them something else that bring much of the humor.

The closest thing that Discworld offers to a non-flawed character is Havelock Vetinari, whose humorous moments tend to come at the expense of much more flawed characters. Alone and by himself, Vetinari is not all that funny, which is why in later novels his secretary Drumknott is always present as a straight man for Vetinari to play off of.

And funny situations tend to stem from character flaws. In the end things always come down to characters- in both comedy and serious writing.

Um, Happygun? I think you're confusing character's imperfection with character incompetance. Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly is in his own words 'Captain Dummy' and 'A Mean Old Man' but is also very competent, sometimes brilliantly so... he also happens to be real funny.
