So the weres in this world can only be killed by silver, tooth and claw of another were, and fire. According to Peter in the first arc. But the weres seem to fear the claws so much that it sounds like if they're even nicked by silver or another were, it would be instantanious death. I just figured that those things would just be the only thing that could deal any real damage to them.

Also, can weres still at least handle silver object? If not, it would probably be rather awkward at formal dinner parties.

"Oh, this looks delicious *picks up fork* Aaaah! Oh God the pain! the Burning! Owww..."

Silver is safe so long as it doesn't puncture the flesh. The resulting wound takes a very long time to heal even by human standards, if the were lives. It certainly doesn't burn on touch. For one thing, no were could handle a mirror if it did!

Likewise, it is not the touch of claws or fangs of other weres, but the fact that wounds made by them are not regenerated.

Since Silver is toxic to us non-mutated humans in large amounts, I'd suspect that it must be devastating to were's, with their elevated reactions to envirionmental stress (reflexes). Possibly, it could even lead to gangrene, if the Ionic forms of silver were to circulate deeper into the were's flesh.
People used to get their throats "Painted" with silver nitrate solution for persistant throat infections. These same people (about 30%) later came down with Liver failure due to Heavy Metal poisoning (Yep! Silver diddit).
Now take your average Were with a much more elevated Metabolic system, a super fast Regerative ability...and drop in one of the most Cellularly Toxic metals on the planet, and step back quick....said were's gonna blow!
What's scairy is that some lowlife could just Coat a bullet with silver, or stuff a Hollow-point with powdered silver, and the target were' would be toast. Poisoned. Punctured. Unable to repair the damage. Dead.
That is NOT a plot idea. Kris! Please!

And as for the fear factor, if you're immune from all but 3 types of death, you're going to keep a sharp eye out for those 3.
