I never had much trouble getting the courses I wanted/needed for my major. Of course, my university used the quarter system as opposed to the semester system.

If I had to level one complaint against college education - and rest assured I can certainly think of more than one - it would be that too much emphasis is placed on theory as opposed to practical, APPLICABLE knowledge and job skills. It's one thing to know how polymerase chain reactions work and quite another to be able to use a PCR machine and troubleshoot reactions.

There aren't as many "useless" professors in a typical university as one might think - even in the arts. Unless you have tenure, are a full professor or make up the core faculty in a minor department (i.e. philosophy, entomology, history, atmospheric science) you're generally expected to make some meaningful, useful contribution to the university and/or students or you'll be canned. Publish or perish, my friends. Publish or perish.

On that last point, well that one I chalk as much up to the proffesor being an @$$ than the course material.

I wound up with two Art History profs over the course of things, both had a take on Picasso's Guernica. When I tried to discuss the diffrence with the latter one I got a straight up,"Well his interpretation was wrong." in refereance to what the first prof had said. Now, in something as subjective as Modern Art, I think it's rather hard to nail right or wrong to something unless you can show where someone is quoting the artist.

For the curious, what is quoted that Picasso said about Guernica: "...this bull is a bull and this horse is a horse... If you give a meaning to certain things in my paintings it may be very true, but it is not my idea to give this meaning. What ideas and conclusions you have got I obtained too, but instinctively, unconsciously. I make the painting for the painting. I paint the objects for what they are." So ina way both were actually wrong, but also right.

For the record, at the time I was taking some art courses to try to get into a computer animation course. I still hold any Art course that isn't a practical/lab/studio course is a course in BSing people.

Oh the fun I could have ranting and raving at my Jr. college right now, hell the educatinal system in geniral has me rather pissed off. but I won't the only way I can let those old issue go is if I don't obsess over them. Anyway I thought that was supposed to be a non traditinal aged student.to Chris and BAR-1 great work as always.
Now if you'll excuess me I need to go and vent my aggression so I don't keep a running rant in my head for the rest of the day about why I hate the wyoming public and college educatinal systems.

Is it just me, or did the update this week recycle last week's panel? The archives that I tapped pulled up last week's page, and when I tried the "This Week" field. the same thing happened.

If this keeps up tomorrow, I'll start to worry.

And as to what Sarah is looking at and blushing, it's probably just some more electrical tape...or not.

And Jean is right about how the Colleges still screw-up your schedule with junk classes, although that is changing since students are checking more carefully on when they can actually get to their majors and going to the College that gets them there fastest. Some areas of learning are changing so fast that with the standard system of making you waste a year taking classes before really getting to the meat of your education may give you a nearly worthless diploma.
So, colleges that do that lose out to Tech. schools, which have to keep up. Poor Professor: he's been found out!

Good work, guys! Jean is going to be a great addition to the story; now they really are the "Three Wuff-keteers" (I'm counting Sarah as two people; Porthos and D'Artagnion-girl and Wuff).
