So basically, you can collect all the evidence on werewolves you want, and publish a book about it to tell the world.

Very, very few. In every case I've seen, it's been ones that either snuck under the radar (ie, didn't get tagged as webcomics) or had multiple books out, plus multiple references in other works.
And I'm pretty sure (but I'd have to go find an example, and wikipedia is a moving target :-/ ) I've seen cases where -having- these didn't save an article.
I take anything on wikipedia as hearsay, these days.

Actually, Kris has mentioned previously that in Genericville (my term for the town where PItW occurs) there is a small cadre' of humans that are in on the Secret, and support the local Werewolf population's need to hide.
The local Were's support these people (if they're running a business) and, I suspect, provide a measure of protection from individuals who might harm their "friends".
I also suspect that this group of "insiders" is generational, if the family is local to the community.
They may even serve as "Security" for the monthly Howls; since they don't shift, they are the perfect watchers for intrusion from outside sources. They might also carry messages during full moons, should and emergency arise-from the local Pack to a human contact with another Pack.
Of course, these people would be the first people that Gus would "eliminate", as the know too much.

Oh, my yes! One little playful "nip" and junior's a thrall! Of course, if that were to happen, early childhood would be the best time for it.
Just ask Sarah...
