In this case, the way it's done fits very well with Becca's character, and actually helps explain quite a bit. It really does provide honest character development for both of them, and helps keep Becca from being a flat character.

Of course, this means Gus is now officially purely hated.

I think Gus, actually, is a man who thinks he's a wolf. See Discworld for explanations why, but even wolves aren't as viscious as he is. Alpha wolves don't rule by violence, they rule because they're the best people for the job, and everybody knows it. Gus could never be a TRUE Alpha.

Thats the problem, werewolves, at least in this world is tha they aren't wolves, nor are they human, they are a mix of the two. In some ways one could say that human half is stronger then the wolf half because it's what gives the werewolf the ability reason and understand things on the same level a human does, if the wolf was the stronger half werewolves wouldn't be able to function around humans as well as they do, due to the wolf part of them having much greater control. While they may not belong purely to either side, it'd be foolish not to consider that one half doesn't have a greater hold on the other due to how important it is when dealing with humans.
