As for "working alongside humans", Gus probably doesn't like any of his associate human Deputies...but he may respect one or two, simply on the basis of sheer guts and nerve. Even a Wolf will respect that, given that's what makes for position in a Pack.
There's even a very remote possibility that he may feel that certain people are "wasted" as humans, they'd make good wolves (under his control, of course). This assumes his mind goes past what benefits him.
And then there's the human that signs his paycheck...
This is all just speculation, mind you. Remember, though the word coming out of Mister "X"'s cell phone: "CORPORATE" which would indicate some fairly heavy players are involved...
