Whether you actually bought the Luxurious Fur Coat perk from the Indiegogo campaign or not, describe the kind of were character you would be in the PiTW universe. I'll start with my own.

Rolff Gunnar Franz

Species: Werebear. Primarily brown bear with some polar bear blood from his mother's side.
Age: Mid 30's
Occupation: Owner Operator
Ancestry: German from father's side and Norwegian from mother's side.

Rolff is big no matter how you observe him. In human form he's 6'5" and 315 lbs. In bear form, well, you probably don't want to know. On the rare occasion he does fight, he uses his impressive size, strength and weight to his advantage such as pounding the ground to throw his opponents off balance and using heavy things around him as weapons, such as boulders, small trees, etc. His metabolism is also high which means he heals fast even for a lycanthrope. This results in him having a huge appetite. In fact, his own worst fear is that he'll lose control of his hunger and seek out the nearest source of fresh meat...

He's an objectivist and an atheist. The nature of reality and existence are obviously not going to be different in different parts of the world, and the very fact that there even ARE so many different religious views in the world is itself a good reason to be skeptical. If someone wants to have any hope of understanding things at all, they need to approach the matter with observation, gathering evidence and corroborating multiple sources, NOT by declaring that some mysteriously powerful being just made it happen because you're too dumb to see through the "Argument from Complexity" fallacy.

Like most werebears, Rolff completely rejects other were species' concepts of social structure and hierarchy. Size and power shouldn't really be something one should be proud of OR ashamed of, as such things aren't really achieved through effort but are merely the genetic cards you're dealt, especially for weres. He's a libertarian and believes that the best happiness in life is best figured out from individual to individual and thus cannot and should not be dictated by others.

In addition to his regular freight hauling, he also transports wolfsbane and locoweed between packs for a modest fee. In fact, a certain large and barely controlled thrall has probably resulted in his visitation at least once. His viewpoints on individualism and dislike of religion means that he hates religious werewolf hunters with a passion, at least, as much passion as someone like him can really show. He collects and compiles intel on hunters and their activities and shares such info with packs for free, and has even eliminated hunters personally on more than one occasion, with the alpha's permission of course. On those occasions, he brings the hunter's clothes and weapons to the alpha as proof of the deed. The bodies are never found, however, leaving some to suspect that in addition to killing them, Rolff may have eaten them. He doesn't confirm or deny this, but does very occasionally slip up by referring to hunters as 'meaty morsels' when talking about them.

Surprisingly, he actually is willing to attend howls of whatever pack he happens to be visiting at the time for a few reasons. (1) Free cookout food, (2) he can't fit in his truck while in bear form and would rather not take the risk, and (3) alphas sometimes want him around for security reasons. Just don't expect him to do very much besides eating and relaxing. He's not interested in chatting it up with anyone and is definitely not going to talk about his own life, although the fastest way to get him to warm up to you is through his stomach. He's certainly not out for sexual activity. Even if the size difference weren't usually against him, he's more interested in a good meal than a good screw. Besides, if he does start to feel in an amorous mood, all he has to do is visit a werecat clan in North Carolina whose matriarch, a particularly large lioness, offers him sex whenever he wants after he 'disposed' of a hunter that was threatening her family.

Sometimes at howls, smaller and weaker weres will want to hang around him, not only out of awe but also hoping for some protection, especially in more traditional packs. At first he found this annoying but has slowly grown a bit of a soft spot for the small ones and WILL even defend them, especially if the stronger weres in the pack are annoying jerks. Actual fights are few and far between though, especially if the would be aggressor knows who and what he is.


This is all just stuff that I've written up myself. How much, if any, remains canon when he shows up in the comic is ultimately up to Kris. The only difference from what I've already emailed to Kris is the change of his middle name from Gunter to Gunnar to give him a bit more Scandinavian flair.

Ben is the one who first recommended being a detective. Originally I was apprehensive since I'm so lousy with logic myself, but I decided to throw a little bit in anyway with the intel gathering about hunters. The anti hunter stuff, however, is probably going to be a moot point since it looks like the issue with Lee will be resolved by then.

Neat! Great to see all the thought and detail you put into this Ganthan! I didn't expect people to have a whole backstory fitting in the PitW universe, but you did a good job of integrating the character into the established setting.

With a well described backstory like this I can see how it's going to be a lot of work handle all the different cameos for the comic. It's hard to imagine how to work in details like Rolff's werecat lover - unless the main cast walks in on them together!

Best of luck to Kris and Ben with all the upcoming cameos, and publishing Book 2, and the Captain's Tables stuff on top of that as well! We'll have to get you guys a vacation after all this is done. Hope everything goes smoothly!
